What We Use

Energy Star   Customer benefits   What we use

Hollub Homes uses a collection of the following practices in every one of its homes:

SEER rated air conditioning systems

The SEER, or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, rating is like its "mpg" counterpart in the automotive industry. The SEER gives an indication of the performance efficiency of the air conditioning system. The higher the SEER, the more efficient the unit. And, the more efficient the unit, the lower the operating costs. We are always looking for the highest SEER rating compared to the dollars planned to be spent.

Fire Ratings

All of our homes exceed the industry norm for fire-rated building. The independent, for-profit company Underwriters Laboratories Inc (UL) has developed a series of laboratory tests to measure how well materials (such as drywall) resist fires. These tests are widely accepted throughout the industry.

The term "fire-resistance" designates the ability of a laboratory-constructed assembly to contain a fire in a carefully controlled test setting for a specified period of time. Such an assembly might be a partition, a floor/ceiling, a roof/ceiling, or a protected beam or column. The materials used, such as fire rated drywall and poured concrete have a direct effect on fire rating.

Radiant Heat Barrier

Reflective insulation, also called a radiant barrier, is a metallic foil material (usually aluminum) designed to block radiant heat transfer across open spaces. Reflective insulation is very effective at reducing cooling bills and can be installed in ceilings and walls. Radiant barriers are coupled with fiberglass insulation batts to achieve superior heat control.

Attic exhaust fans and ventilation

Whole house attic fans are used to draw out excessive heat build-up in the attic. Removing this heat keeps the air conditioning ducts cooler and lowers the temperature of the entire house.

Radon Gas mitigation

Radon is a naturally occurring gas. Radon levels can be lowered using a process called mitigation. By decompressing the air underneath the floor slab, the radon gas can be expelled with PVC pipes which extend from the soil through the roof.

Glass Energy coefficients

Impact, hurricane rated glass is always used; however, new advanced technologies and designs have dramatically improved the performance of the most energy efficient windows. Glass coatings, gas fills, warm edge spacers, and improved framing materials enable windows to deliver more benefits than simple double pane windows. Windows and exterior doors that are designed to withstand even greater wind load pressures are another factor to consider.

Whole-house generators

Various types and makes of permanent generators exist which can power your entire home. We include whole house generators with automatic transfer switches in every home we build.

Air conditioning humidistats

Especially in Florida, these instruments are designed to control the relative humidity of the air inside the home. The humidistat, coupled with a variable speed air conditioning system, allows the air conditioning system to run longer in order to draw out more moisture in the home without overcooling the house.

Low-Odor paints

This paint contains no volatile organic compounds or hazardous materials and emits almost no odor, meaning it can be applied in occupied areas without complaints, and with little or no effect to the environment.

Aqualink Control Devices for pool and spa

This computer touch screen device allows the homeowner to easily control all aspects of the pool, spa and backyard features from the inside of the home. The system displays air temperature and water temperature so the homeowner can have complete automation. The device can also be linked to a computer or phone.

Heat pumps for pools

To best maximize and enjoy the year-round use of pools, we install state-of-the art energy efficient heaters for all of our pools. Often, we use combinations of gas heaters and heat pumps.

Ultra Violet Lights and Filters

UV lights installed directly inside the air conditioning system destroy mold and bacteria as the air passes by the light. These devices, as well as additional or upgraded filters, also extend the life of the air conditioning units.

Mold Resistant Drywall

Drywall that is designed to inhibit the growth of mold is relatively new to the market. The benefits seem obvious, especially in our tropical climate.
