HOMEBUILDER BRINGS CHARM AND QUALITY TO AREA COMMUNITIES

Hollub Construction Group continues to “build on tradition.”

Innovative, while maintaining quality standards, the newest custom homes showcase everything from a flavor of Key West to breezy Bermuda.

Hollub Construction, 9771 S. Dixie Hwy, began as a dream by family patriarch Marvin Hollub. His vision was to build fine homes on picturesque plots in the community. Over the years, the company has grown to include son Harry and daughter Helene.  “Dad’s been building here since 1954,” said Helene. “He wanted to become a builder.”  The first house he built was in Pinecrest on an acre and sold for $19,000,” added Harry. “It was a three-bedroom-two-bath with a pool.”

Helene says that at that time a “three-two” was considered a large home in Pinecrest. Pinecrest natives Helene and
Harry say that the homes that are being knocked down were considered luxury homes back then. Presently they say that they continue the fine workmanship of their father’s legacy.

“We’ve carried on the method of building, including our father’s quality construction,” said Helene.

“Even though there is a minimum building code, we don’t build to the minimum,” said Harry.

According to Harry, the difference in the quality includes exceeding the minimum standard, which is apparent in their construction enforcement and engineering. Hollub Construction uses poured concrete and concrete block, as opposed to wood trusses for floors and “stick” (wood exterior walls) construction upstairs. Yet, he says they focus on major differences, including custom floor plans and insured and licensed subcontractors for every part of the job.

“We spend a lot more time, energy and dollars in the engineering of our home,” said Harry. “We use virtually the same subcontractors on all of our jobs. As a result, the jobs run very smoothly and some subcontractors have worked for us over 30 years.”

The Hollubs focus on every aspect of the home. From construction to finish materials and they say their standards are impeccable.  I’m responsible for the construction and scheduling of every job,” said Harry.  “I’m on the job site personally every day to oversee the entire job.”

Helene ’s final touches follow, but always with the client’s happiness and budget in mind.  “I custom design for each customer in standard or custom materials,” said Helene. “I personally show the clients all of my preferred suppliers of finished materials, so I make custom designs for each individual client.”

This year, the Hollubs were recognized for their work for the Builders Association of South Florida, which gave the company the Best Award, including the prestigious Platinum Award for best design and architecture. “We entered one house in seven categories and we won awards in every category,” said Harry.

The Hollubs continue to create innovative and stylish quality homes. Helene says there is a desire for Florida outdoor living. “We noticed a trend toward a Bermuda colonial style and we saw a market for Key West style as well,” said Helene. “We’ve incorporated those concepts into our newly available homes located at 10625 SW 68 Ave., 11816 S. Mitchell Manor Circle , 6501 SW 122 St., 10890 SW 68 Ave., & 6040 SW 106 St.”

Indeed, the Key West-style custom home boasts Victorian charm with a welcoming wrap-around porch. The aluminum roofing creates an “island” feeling, while the expansive, open rooms to the patio lend a refreshing breeze. No detail is spared inside, from the well-designed floor plan, expansive closets and eye-catching master bathroom, to the sunny laundry room. According to Helene, the prices in Pinecrest begin at $1.8 million dollars.

For those not yet ready for a custom home, Hollub Construction Group can add a superior-custom home feeling to any existing house.
“We build for between $175 and $225 per square foot, exclusive of land,” said Harry . “In Palmetto
Bay , we build for $130 per square foot, with materials that are more standard.”

Harry noted the increased price for land in Pinecrest and said that as builders even they are amazed at the prices for a lot. “Homes are reaching in excess of $2.5 million dollars because the builder has to justify the price of the land,” says Helene .

The Hollubs plan to continue to build and renovate in South Miami, Coral Gables and Pinecrest. They are always on-hand and in touch with their clients.  “Helene and I meet with every client,” said Harry . “The niche that we have here is that when you’re working with the company, you’re working with us, the owners.”
