INTERIOR DESIGN CAN TURN A HOUSE OR CONDOMINIUM INTO A HOME.
It
is interior design that turns a house or condominium unit into a
home. In a production model, a designer works his or her magic
to create an environment where potential buyers can visualize
themselves living and enjoying themselves. In a custom home, a
designer can build a decor that specifically suits the owner's
individual tastes, desires and lifestyle. This year's winners
portray the talent and diversity of interior designers in South
Florida.
The Hollub Construction Group grabbed Platinum in the Custom
Single-Family Home category for a Key West-Style house in the
Village of Pinecrest. Hand-carved front doors set the tone for
the interior, which uses richly appointed fabrics to blend with
the home's nautical theme. In the main living area, a live palm
serves as a divider for the great room, which consists of living
room, dining room and kitchen with light-tone hard-wood flooring
throughout.
The custom-designed, glass-topped dining table has sculpted
marble bases in the shape of waves, while the rattan chairs have
leather seats and silk brocade backs. The kitchen has two sinks,
and the counter behind the larger also services the bar on the
patio. The second sink is within an island that serves as a
breakfast bar. A child's bedroom is decorated to appear as if it
is underwater, while the playroom depicts a rain-forest.
